Veteran American Soap Opera Actor Discloses Cancer Diagnosis

Suzanne Rogers, the iconic American soap opera actor, has disclosed her cancer diagnosis. Known for her role as Maggie Horton on “Days of Our Lives,” she revealed her condition during an interview with TV Insider. The diagnosis came over the summer, and she is preparing to return to filming after completing her treatment.

Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment Journey

Rogers first suspected something was wrong when she noticed unusual symptoms. This prompted her to schedule a doctor’s appointment, leading to a series of tests including a colonoscopy. Following the procedure, a surgeon recommended additional scans and a biopsy.

It was then that she received the shocking news: stage two colorectal cancer. Rogers expressed her surprise, stating, “I take pretty good care of myself,” indicating the difficulties of coping with the diagnosis.

Treatment Details

  • Started treatment in June 2023.
  • Underwent daily radiation and chemotherapy for six weeks.
  • Completed treatment on July 31, 2023.

Rogers described the treatment regimen as challenging, especially having to attend therapy five days a week. Fortunately, the show was on a scheduled break during the start of her treatment, allowing her to focus on recovery. With no family nearby for support, she relied on the encouragement of her co-stars, including Linsey Godfrey, a fellow actor and cancer survivor.

Looking Ahead

As Rogers prepares to return to “Days of Our Lives,” she stated, “I’m feeling really good.” She aims to resume her role with dedication, expressing a typical actor’s anxiety about performing well. As the soap opera is currently producing episodes months in advance, there will be a period in 2026 when her character may not be featured on screen.

“Days of Our Lives” continues to be available for streaming on Peacock, where fans can catch up on the latest episodes as they await Rogers’ return.
