SECU Foundation Grants $500,000 to Expand Safelight Domestic Violence Shelter

The SECU Foundation has committed $500,000 to enhance the Safelight Domestic Violence Shelter in Henderson County, North Carolina. This significant funding aims to expand the shelter’s capacity, allowing it to serve an additional 150 individuals annually. Safelight, Inc. has been a vital resource for domestic violence survivors since its establishment in 1984.

Expansion of Safelight Shelters

The grant will enable the shelter to increase its room availability from 13 to 20. This expansion is crucial for providing safe refuge to those fleeing violence and abuse. Additionally, the funding will support renovations to the Dandelion Cafe, which is integral to the shelter’s job training program.

Commitment to Survivors

Safelight’s comprehensive services include mental health, medical, legal, housing, and employment assistance. Over the years, the organization has successfully supported more than 46,000 survivors, allowing them to rebuild their lives free from violence.
