Disney+ Launches Streaming in HDR10+ Quality

Disney+ has officially launched streaming for select titles in HDR10+ quality, enhancing the viewing experience for users. This development marks a significant step in the platform’s evolution, which was initially hinted at back in January.
HDR10+ Feature Expansion
This week, Disney+ began rolling out HDR10+ for selected Hulu titles, with over 1,000 options available. Users can look forward to an expansion that will eventually include Disney content on the platform.
What is HDR10+?
Unlike standard HDR10, HDR10+ utilizes dynamic metadata to optimize picture quality on a scene-by-scene basis. This feature improves visuals especially on mid-range televisions that have limited HDR capabilities.
Requirements for HDR10+
- A Disney+ Premium subscription is necessary to access HDR10+, 4K, and Dolby Atmos content.
- The feature is currently exclusive to Samsung TVs, starting from models released in 2018 and onwards.
- Users should ensure they have updated the Disney+ app to enjoy these enhancements.
Looking Ahead
Although HDR10+ is limited to Samsung devices at this time, other streaming services like Amazon, Apple, and Netflix have also begun incorporating HDR10+ support. Disney has yet to provide a timeline for when HDR10+ will be available on additional devices or TVs.
Inbeom Kim, Vice President of Visual Display at Samsung, expressed enthusiasm about this partnership, emphasizing their commitment to enhancing the HDR10+ offering in collaboration with various partners.
While owners of devices like Apple TV 4K and Amazon Fire TV currently lack access to HDR10+, updates indicate a strong potential for future compatibility.
