Truong Ngoc Anh, a prominent Vietnamese actress and businesswoman, was recently arrested by the Ho Chi Minh City Police. The police took action on October 31, after filing a case against her for allegedly committing fraud involving significant financial assets.

Truong Ngoc Anh, 49, is accused of abusing her position as the Chairwoman and Director of Dat Rong Real Estate Company. The company was established in 2007, under her leadership. Allegations arose when Dat Rong’s investment partner, an Irish national identified only as P.G.M., reported discrepancies in the financial dealings.

Investment Irregularities

P.G.M. had invested $9.1 million (approximately 149 billion VND) for two real estate projects, one of which included the Indochine Tower located at 112 Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, District 3. He transferred $4.49 million (around 72 billion VND) for this specific project.

This raises concerns of inflated valuations and misappropriation of funds.

Land Compensation Issues

In December 2007, local authorities decided to reclaim the land for expanding Le Quy Don High School, compensating local residents with over 26.1 billion VND. Nevertheless, the residents returned this compensation to Truong Ngoc Anh and N.M.H. Despite this, it is reported that Truong Ngoc Anh only transferred 3 billion VND back to the company, allegedly using the remaining funds for personal expenses.
