Rangers Lose Key Coaching Staff Member Under Skip Schumaker

The Texas Rangers are undergoing significant changes in their coaching staff this offseason, following a second consecutive missed playoff appearance. Under the leadership of newly appointed manager Skip Schumaker, the franchise is revamping its approach as it prepares for the upcoming season.
Key Coaching Changes for the Rangers
In recent weeks, the Rangers announced critical adjustments, starting with the departure of catching coach Bobby Wilson. Wilson will not return after six years with the team. Further developments followed with reports from Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News and Jeff Wilson of DLLS Sports highlighting the significant departure of pitching coach Mike Maddux.
Mike Maddux’s Departure
Mike Maddux, who previously served as the Rangers’ pitching coach, will not return in 2026. Instead, he is accepting the same position with the Los Angeles Angels. While the Rangers extended an invitation for him to continue under Schumaker’s management, Maddux ultimately chose to leave.
Chris Young, the president of baseball operations, expressed gratitude for Maddux’s contributions to the organization. He stated, “The Texas Rangers are forever grateful to Mike for his contributions here. Mike has played a major role for some of the best teams in Rangers history, including the franchise’s first World Series title in 2023.”
Achievements Under Mike Maddux
This marks the end of Maddux’s second stint with the Rangers. Previously coaching from 2009 to 2015, he returned in 2023 and led a pitching staff that boasted the league’s best team ERA at 3.41. His impact was felt significantly, especially as he cultivated talent.
- Jack Leiter grew into a dependable starter.
- Tyler Mahle shined in his limited appearances.
- Patrick Corbin regained his form, achieving his best performance since 2019.
Maddux was instrumental in each Rangers team that reached the World Series in 2010, 2011, and 2023. His absence will be keenly felt by both players and fans.
As the Rangers look to the future, the role of pitching coach remains an attractive opportunity. The next appointee will inherit a talented pitching staff, poised to build on the foundations laid under Maddux’s guidance.
