Before leading Alabama to seven national championships, Saban was head coach at LSU from 2000 to 2004. During his time there, he transformed the program and secured the 2003 national championship, the institution’s first since 1958.

Comments on LSU’s Coaching Appeal

In a recent interview with On3, Saban shared his perspective on the LSU coaching position. He acknowledged the evolving landscape of college football hiring, emphasizing that financial resources greatly influence coaching opportunities today.

Saban also commented on Lane Kiffin, the current head coach at Ole Miss, who is being considered for both the LSU and Florida openings. He reflected on whether Kiffin’s current role is superior compared to potential jobs at LSU or Florida. Saban remarked, “He has some guys over there at Ole Miss that give him pretty much whatever he wants from a roster standpoint.”

Saban’s Future Coaching Plans

Regarding his own coaching future, Saban ruled out a return during an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show.” He expressed a desire to remain retired and quipped about his wife, Miss Terry, being drawn to enticing offers. “I want to stay retired,” he stated, indicating no intentions of coaching again.

Despite his firm stance on retirement, SEC Network analyst Paul Finebaum suggested that Saban might reconsider if LSU comes calling.
