Jays Optimistic Springer Will Play in Game 6

Blue Jays manager John Schneider has expressed optimism about George Springer’s potential return to the field for Game 6 of the World Series on Friday. The designated hitter, who suffered a right side muscle strain during Game 3, was reportedly close to playing in Game 5 against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Springer’s Injury Update

Schneider indicated that Springer was “right on the fence” regarding his availability for Game 5, which the Blue Jays won 6-1, giving them a 3-2 series advantage. “I think he probably could have played,” Schneider noted. However, the team prioritized his long-term health, considering how the game might unfold.

The 36-year-old left the field after one pitch during a plate appearance in the seventh inning of Game 3. He sat out Game 4 entirely. Despite this, he worked out in the batting cage and practiced on the field prior to Game 5.

Preparation for Game 6

Schneider confirmed that Springer has met all physical requirements to compete in Game 6. “Just making sure he feels comfortable and confident,” Schneider stated, emphasizing the importance of having Springer ready for more than just one at-bat.

During Game 5, Springer was prepared to pinch-run for Bo Bichette in the ninth inning, but Bichette’s groundout meant Springer’s services were not needed. “I’m glad we didn’t need him and got him an extra couple days,” Schneider said.

Springer’s Career Highlights

Springer is known for his impressive career achievements. He ranks second in major league history for leadoff homers with 63, just behind Hall of Famer Rickey Henderson’s 81. On October 20, he played a crucial role in the American League Championship Series by hitting a three-run homer that helped the Blue Jays secure their first World Series appearance since 1993.

Previously, he was named World Series MVP in 2017 while with the Houston Astros, where he made history by hitting five homers against the Dodgers. However, he remains a controversial figure due to the fallout from the Astros’ sign-stealing scandal, often facing boos from Los Angeles fans.

As the Blue Jays prepare for a pivotal Game 6, all eyes will be on Springer’s status, with hopes of a strong performance to clinch the championship.
