The Royal Thai Police have issued a warning aimed at the public regarding potential foreign call center scammers operating within Thailand. This comes as law enforcement has identified distinct behaviors that may signify the presence of these illegitimate operations.

Key Warning Signs of Call Center Scammers

Authorities have highlighted four specific tactics used by foreign call center scam gangs. Understanding these behaviors can help citizens identify and report suspicious activity.

Groups of Foreign Nationals: Look out for clusters of 3-6 foreign individuals residing together in short-term rentals. They typically remain isolated and may exhibit irregular coming and going patterns.
Constant Foreign-Language Phone Conversations: If you frequently hear foreign languages during the day from nearby dwellings, it may indicate ongoing scam operations.
Use of Blackout Curtains: Closed curtains during daytime hours along with lights on at night can suggest efforts to conceal activities while aligning with the time zones of their victims.
Excessive Communication Equipment: Be cautious of residences equipped with numerous phones, computers, routers, and other devices, often accompanied by visible signs of movement in and out.

Public Reporting Encouraged

The Royal Thai Police urge citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behaviors they encounter. Reports can be made via hotline numbers 191 or 1599, which are operational 24/7. Authorities are committed to investigating such reports thoroughly and dismantling the call centers to ensure safety for both local residents and tourists.

Pol. Maj. Gen. Siriwat Deepho, Deputy Spokesperson of the Royal Thai Police, noted that the National Police Chief, Pol. Gen. Kittirat Phanphet, has expressed significant concern over the rise of technology-enabled crimes, especially those orchestrated by foreign call center scammers. The police aim to tackle this growing threat effectively.
