Cougar Football Alters Game Theme
The #22 Houston Football team has made significant adjustments to its game theme in honor of the late Director of Strength and Performance, Kurt Hester. This Saturday, during their match against West Virginia, the team will hold a Black Out game, Hester’s favorite color.
Kurt Hester had been battling Stage IV melanoma since February and sadly passed away just before Houston’s recent victory over #24/25 Arizona State. This game takes on new meaning as the Cougars dedicate it to him.
Honoring Coach Hester
To pay tribute, the Cougars will wear black uniforms adorned with the hashtag #Unbreakable, which was Coach Hester’s personal motto during his final months. Additionally, John M. O’Quinn Field will feature #Unbreakable elements in its field painting for this nationally televised event.
Halftime Tribute and Merchandise
- The Spirit of Houston will conduct a special tribute during halftime, spelling out “unbreakable” on the field.
- Black merchandise honoring Coach Hester will be available at the Team Shop and licensed retailers throughout the city.
Rescheduled Black Out Game
Originally scheduled for November 22 against TCU, the Black Out game will now take place on November 1 against West Virginia. Kick-off is set for 11 a.m. on FS1. Houston has won its last two Black Out games, previously defeating West Virginia in 2023 and Kansas State in 2024.
Commemorating the 2015 Championship Team
In addition to honoring Coach Hester, this game will also celebrate the 2015 Peach Bowl and American Athletic Conference Championship team, marking ten years since their triumph. Fans can purchase special $20.15 tickets to commemorate this milestone.
