Ohio Native QB Ethan Grunkemeyer Realizes Dream at Ohio Stadium

Ethan Grunkemeyer, a native of the Columbus area, is about to realize his dream of playing at Ohio Stadium. The Penn State quarterback will be under center as he faces Ohio State on November 1. Grunkemeyer took on the starting quarterback role after Drew Allar underwent season-ending ankle surgery.

From Local High School Hero to College Football Starter

Grunkemeyer attended Olentangy High School, where he had an impressive career as a quarterback. He threw for 3,517 yards, completed 66.3% of his passes, and achieved 39 touchdowns along with eight interceptions. Despite not receiving an offer from Ohio State, he had several interactions with the coaching staff during his recruitment.

A Personal Connection to Ohio State

Growing up in Lewis Center, Ohio, Grunkemeyer always had a deep admiration for Ohio State football. He fondly remembers attending the thrilling 2017 game where Ohio State stunned Penn State with a 39-38 victory. His family also has a connection to the Buckeyes; his mother, Megan McCabe, played for the Ohio State women’s basketball team between 1997 and 1999.

Community Engagement and Philanthropy

In addition to his athletic achievements, Grunkemeyer is dedicated to giving back to the community. He volunteers with the 2nd & 7 Foundation, an organization established by former Ohio State football players, including Ryan Miller, Luke Fickell, and Mike Vrabel.

Grunkemeyer’s Performance at Penn State

So far in his college career, Grunkemeyer has recorded 23 completions on 39 attempts for a total of 198 yards. He has thrown for one touchdown and two interceptions in his appearances with Penn State.

Looking Ahead

As he prepares for his upcoming start at Ohio Stadium, Grunkemeyer expressed his excitement. “I dreamed about playing in that stadium. It’s going to be cool to go back home,” he said. His journey from a local quarterback to a college football player exemplifies the spirit and dreams of many young athletes.
