Historic Milestone Unites Football Club and Town in Celebration

Chatham Town Football Club is set to make history this Saturday as they participate in the FA Cup first round for the first time in 97 years. The club, known as Chats, last appeared at this stage during a match against Norwich City in 1928. Under the leadership of manager and chairman Kevin Hake, the team has achieved remarkable progress.

Historic Milestone for Chatham Town

Manager Kevin Hake expressed his pride in reaching this significant milestone, stating, “To be in the First Round Proper of the FA Cup for the first time in 97 years is an incredible achievement.” Hake has successfully led the team to two promotions since taking charge.

“This weekend is a really special moment for the football club and the town,” Hake added. The atmosphere in Chatham has surged with excitement, reflecting how much this achievement means to the supporters, volunteers, and the entire community.

Recent Performances and Upcoming Challenges

Chatham Town is currently in excellent form, remaining unbeaten in their last six league matches. They recently advanced to the second round of the FA Trophy with a 2-0 victory over Waltham Abbey. Goals from Kian Moynes and Kian Garlinge secured their place against Wimbourne Town in the next round.

They also triumphed in the Kent Senior Cup quarter-finals, defeating Erith Town 3-1. Ben Allen, Junior Nkeng, and Isaac Hadlow contributed to this win. New signing Matty Macarthur made his debut during the match against Erith Town.

FA Cup First Round Match Details

This Saturday’s match will be an exciting moment as Chatham Town competes at Buxton, a non-league team situated at the highest altitude stadium in the country, approximately 1,000 feet above sea level. Buxton currently ranks fifth in the National League North and recently celebrated a 6-0 victory over Alfreton.

Chatham Town previously demonstrated their capability by defeating Tonbridge Angels, a step two side, 3-1 in the final qualifying round of the FA Cup. Hake recognized the challenge that Buxton represents, noting, “They’re a strong side from the league above, and we’ll have to be at our very best.”

Community Involvement and Fundraising

To further bring the community together, Kevin Hake will participate in a fire walk to raise funds for the Wisdom Hospice, a local charity. He aims to collect £500 for the organization, which provides end-of-life care and support. The event is scheduled for Thursday night at the Bauvill Stadium.

As Chatham Town prepares for this historic FA Cup encounter, the excitement and support from the community emphasize how far the club has come. Whatever the outcome on Saturday, this moment is a testament to the enduring spirit of the football club and its town.
