Jacobian Morgan’s Status: Will He Play for Jackson State Against FAMU?

Jackson State University (JSU) football faces uncertainty as quarterback JaCobian Morgan’s status for the upcoming game against Florida A&M University (FAMU) remains unclear. Morgan sustained an injury during the P&G Las Vegas HBCU Classic on October 25, where the Tigers lost to Grambling State.

Injury Update on JaCobian Morgan

Morgan exited the game in the first quarter and was seen on crutches, wearing a boot on his left foot. Coach T.C. Taylor addressed the media on October 27, mentioning that Morgan was set to visit a doctor that day. Given Morgan’s injury, Taylor is preparing backup quarterbacks for the game against FAMU.

Backup Options for Jackson State

  • Parker Stofa: A redshirt freshman who played when Morgan was injured. In his career, he has completed 7 of 15 passes for 86 yards and one interception, along with 29 rushing yards and a touchdown.
  • Jared Lockhart: A true freshman who performed well, leading the team to two touchdowns against Grambling State. Lockhart has a season record of 19 completions in 30 attempts for 357 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.

If Morgan cannot play, either Stofa or Lockhart will lead the Tigers against the Rattlers. This game is scheduled for November 1 at Bragg Memorial Stadium and will kick off at 6 p.m. CT, airing on ESPN+.

Jackson State Season Overview

The Tigers currently hold a record of 5-2 and are 3-1 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). In contrast, FAMU stands at 3-4 with a 2-1 conference record. The stakes are high, as a loss could see JSU drop from first to fourth place in the SWAC East division.

Preview of FAMU’s Defense

The Rattlers’ defense has struggled this season, allowing an average of 34.4 points per game, ranking them as one of the weakest in the SWAC. They also give up around 211.1 passing yards per game, providing an opportunity for whichever quarterback takes the field for JSU.

JaCobian Morgan’s performance this season has been solid, completing 61.2% of his passes for a total of 1,183 yards and 11 touchdowns, the third-highest in the SWAC. He has additionally rushed for 265 yards and two touchdowns. Despite not missing games previously due to injury, this recent setback casts doubt on his participation against FAMU.

As the game approaches, all eyes will be on Morgan’s recovery and the preparations of JSU’s backup quarterbacks.
