Go North East Provides Complimentary Travel for Veterans and Armed Forces Members
Go North East has announced complimentary travel for veterans and active members of the armed forces in honor of Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day. This initiative aims to alleviate travel costs, allowing service personnel to participate in remembrance events that commemorate their fallen comrades.
Free Travel Initiative for Veterans and Armed Forces
On Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day, Go North East offers complimentary bus rides to all armed forces members. To qualify for this offer, service personnel must present a current ID card, a veteran’s badge, or wear their uniform.
Veteran Voices on Remembrance
Mark Drape, a Go North East bus driver and a six-year Royal Air Force veteran, expressed the significance of attending these events. He mentioned, “For service members, participating in remembrance events is vital to honor those we’ve lost.”
Paula Armstrong, who served in the Royal Logistic Corps for 24 years, echoed similar sentiments. She explained the importance of honoring both the memories of those who did not return and the stories that live on through remembrance.
Community Involvement
In a show of solidarity, Go North East engineers created a giant poppy using recycled materials from their workshop. This gesture highlights their commitment to recognizing the contributions of their veteran colleagues.
Company Commitment to Veterans
Ben Maxfield, Business Director of Go North East, stated, “We take pride in offering free travel to veterans and current armed forces members. It ensures that those who have served our country can attend remembrance events without financial concern.”

The free travel offer extends across all bus services in the North East region, including major areas such as Newcastle, Sunderland, and Durham. This initiative is part of Go North East’s broader mission to support and honor the military community.
