Arne Slot Confirms Strong Support from Liverpool Board
Liverpool’s manager Arne Slot has expressed strong support from the club’s board amid ongoing challenges this season. Despite the team’s recent struggles, he believes significant changes to the current setup are unnecessary.
Arne Slot’s Perspective on Liverpool’s Performance
In a recent discussion, Slot reflected on the team’s 2-0 win against Manchester City in February. He stated that he is willing to adapt his strategies when required but does not think Liverpool is overly vulnerable defensively. “I don’t think the story… is that we concede chance after chance,” he stated. He acknowledged some matches where the team faced difficulties, particularly against Crystal Palace and Brentford, but maintains that overall, they haven’t conceded excessively.
No Major Overhaul Necessary
Slot emphasized that there is no pressing need to alter the team’s playing style drastically. “We need to do better in not conceding goals,” he admitted. However, he believes the players have generally performed well and deserved more favorable outcomes in matches. During the season, he has noted a lack of depth in Liverpool’s squad, especially in comparison to competitors like Manchester City and Chelsea.
Injuries and Squad Depth
This season, Liverpool has invested approximately £450 million in new signings. Despite this expenditure, Slot remarked on the challenges presented by injuries and player availability. “Not all of them have had a proper pre-season or have been injured during the season,” he explained.
- Ryan Gravenberch has returned to training and may play against Aston Villa.
- Alexander Isak and Curtis Jones are not expected to feature in the near future.
- Goalkeeper Alisson and defender Jeremie Frimpong are currently sidelined due to injuries.
Despite these challenges, Slot remains optimistic about the capabilities of his squad. He reiterated his confidence in the team’s strategy and expressed satisfaction with the quality of players available. “I am completely happy with the team,” he stated, emphasizing a collective belief in their direction going forward.
