Campaign Highlights
On Thursday, Mamdani visited a senior center, emphasizing his commitment to all New Yorkers regarding the rising cost of living. “Cost of living is affecting every single New Yorker, no matter their age,” he stressed.
Later that day, Mamdani appeared at LaGuardia Airport to connect with night-shift workers. He expressed that these individuals often go unnoticed by city officials. “As we head home, they are heading to work,” he remarked.
Cuomo’s Response
In contrasting remarks, Cuomo criticized Mamdani’s proposals. At a senior center in Harlem, Cuomo stated, “He has no plan, and he has no ability or experience to accomplish anything in this city.”
Cuomo was supported by various Muslim community leaders, who defended him against claims of Islamophobia. Mona Davids, a notable figure in the community, stated that no one has fought harder for Muslims in the city than Cuomo and Mayor Eric Adams.
Other Candidates’ Efforts
Despite lower poll numbers, Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa remains active. He claims visibility helps connect him with voters, saying, “You can spot me a mile away with that red beret.”
Meanwhile, former Mayor Mike Bloomberg has invested significantly in Cuomo’s campaign. Bloomberg previously pledged $1.5 million to the Fix the City Super PAC, adding to the $8 million from June. Sliwa criticized this financial influx, suggesting it diverts resources from pressing social issues.
Mamdani’s Campaign Resilience
Mamdani remains undeterred by the opposition. He pointed out the $25 million spent against him during the primaries, highlighting his team’s grassroots efforts. “We overcame that with 52,000 volunteers,” he said, boasting about the scale of his campaign’s outreach.
With the election approaching, Mamdani’s momentum continues as he rallies support from diverse New Yorkers. As the polls close in, all eyes are on the candidates vying for the future of New York City amidst this fierce competition.
