Barcelona Plans Peru Match to Recoup Lost Miami Clash Revenue
FC Barcelona is poised to accept a friendly match offer from Peru as part of its strategy to recover lost revenue from a previously scheduled match in Miami. Club president Joan Laporta recently met with players, manager Hansi Flick, and sporting director Deco at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper training complex to discuss this potential opportunity.
Financial Importance of the Peru Match
During the meeting, Laporta emphasized the crucial financial implications of this match. The club faces reduced commercial income this season, making this friendly pivotal for future revenues.
Match Schedule and Considerations
The proposed friendly is set to occur after Barcelona’s last La Liga game in December 2025. This match was initially meant to take place in Miami against Villarreal on December 20. The club aims to conduct the Peru match before the league’s Christmas break, pending approval from the Spanish Footballers’ Association (AFE).
Barcelona is ensuring that the date of the match complies with players’ collective bargaining agreements concerning the official start of their holiday period.
Expansion into South America
This Peru match will mark Barcelona’s second international exhibition in December, following their friendly against Club America in the United States earlier in 2023. The South American market, particularly Peru, is viewed as a significant commercial opportunity to enhance the club’s global brand strategy.
Laporta’s vision includes strengthening ties across Latin America, aligning perfectly with these ongoing initiatives.
