Walsh Family from Cork to Feature in Premiere Episode of Ireland’s Fittest Family

The popular TV series, Ireland’s Fittest Family, is set to return with a fresh format and exciting challenges. The new season will premiere on RTÉ1 on November 2 at 6:30 PM. This season introduces significant changes, notably increasing the coaching team from four to six. Cork’s own Sonia O’Sullivan has departed, making way for a diverse group of coaches.

Meet the New Coaching Line-up

This season retains familiar faces while welcoming new talent. Coaches Donncha O’Callaghan, Anna Geary, and Davy Fitzgerald continue their roles alongside three newcomers.

  • Ellen Keane: A retired Paralympic swimming champion known for her inspiring journey.
  • Michael Darragh MacAuley: Former Dublin GAA star with eight All-Ireland championships.
  • Andrew Trimble: Renowned Irish rugby player with 70 international caps.

The Walsh Family from Cork

The inaugural episode features the Walsh family from Cork, hoping to capitalize on their new coach, Michael Darragh MacAuley. They will compete against several other families.

  • McClement Family: Hailing from Down, mentored by Anna Geary.
  • Carr Family: Representing Westmeath, also coached by Anna Geary.
  • Byrne Family: From Dublin, under the guidance of Darragh MacAuley.

Competition Details

This season promises intense competition with new events set against stunning backdrops. The heats will take place over three weeks at the Gormanston Army camp, featuring unique challenges.

New Challenges

Among the new events is ‘Box To The Top,’ which requires competitors to race in a head-to-head format while managing kit boxes and sandbags. Another test of strength is the Truck Pull, which involves moving a 7.5-ton army truck along a decommissioned runway.

Each week, two families will face off based on their performance, with the top teams moving forward while the lowest-performing families must compete in the Army Eliminator. This season is expected to bring a mix of physical and mental challenges, culminating in one family earning the title of Ireland’s fittest.
