Aldi Bans Couple for Ignoring Key Checkout Rule Compliance
A couple in Bootle has been banned from their local Aldi after a dispute over checkout procedures escalated. Anthony and Regina Taylor, aged 75 and 65, were at the store when they were instructed to unload their shopping trolley fully, a requirement they typically do not follow.
Aldi Checkout Rule Compliance Dispute
The incident occurred during the couple’s monthly shopping trip at the Washington Parade Aldi. For the past ten years, they have been loyal customers. They normally unload only one item from their trolley when purchasing in bulk, informing the cashier of the total quantity.
However, as they attempted to check out, Anthony, who suffers from osteoarthritis, refused to empty his trolley. He stated, “The member of staff demanded that we had to empty the trolley. She said she couldn’t see what was in the trolley so I said she needed to go to Specsavers.”
Escalation and Banning from the Store
The situation quickly escalated when the store manager intervened. The manager demanded that the couple leave the store. After the altercation, Anthony requested the return of his £1 deposit for the trolley.

- Location: Aldi Bootle, Washington Parade
- Duration as customers: Approximately 10 years
Despite Anthony acknowledging that he had argued with the staff, Aldi claimed the couple became verbally abusive. A spokesperson stated, “Our colleagues work hard to provide great customer service and we don’t tolerate any form of abusive behaviour in our stores.” The spokesperson confirmed their policy requires all items to be scanned at checkout.
Customer Experience and Aftermath
Anthony described feeling insulted by the treatment they received and emphasized their longstanding relationship with the store. He expressed his frustration, saying, “We are embarrassed and we are incensed by it.” Since the incident, the couple has chosen to travel three to four miles to shop elsewhere.
They have voiced their desire for an apology and hope to return to their local Aldi. However, reports indicate they remain barred from the store.
