Arizona Cancer Center Honors Larry Fitzgerald’s Late Mother with Renaming

In a significant act of tribute, the Arizona Cardinals legend Larry Fitzgerald is honoring his late mother, Carol Fitzgerald, by supporting cancer research. The Larry Fitzgerald Foundation recently donated $1 million to Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center. In recognition of this gesture, the Laura Dreier Breast Cancer Center will now be renamed “The Carol Fitzgerald Breast Health Center.”

Carol Fitzgerald, who passed away from breast cancer in 2003, was just 47 years old at the time of her death. This heartfelt dedication took place during a ceremony held at Banner MD Anderson, with family members from the Fitzgerald family present for the unveiling.

Community Impact Through Philanthropy

The Fitzgerald Foundation has had a long-standing relationship with Banner Health, dating back 15 years to when Larry Fitzgerald served as the honorary chair for the Hope Starts Here campaign. Under his leadership, volunteers raised $20 million to fund the development of Banner MD’s main campus located in Gilbert.

Such philanthropy not only reflects personal loss but also embodies a commitment to making a significant impact in the fight against breast cancer, thereby helping countless patients and their families.

The Importance of Breast Health Awareness

  • Larry Fitzgerald’s mother honored with center renaming
  • $1 million donation to support cancer research
  • Renaming focuses attention on breast health awareness

Through initiatives like these, the Arizona community continues to demonstrate resilience and compassion in addressing health challenges. The new Carol Fitzgerald Breast Health Center symbolizes hope and a commitment to the critical fight against breast cancer.
