Festive Atmosphere in Macao as China’s National Games Torch Relay Takes Center Stage
The 15th National Games of China celebrated a significant event with the torch relay in Macao on November 2, 2025. This event infused the city with festive energy, celebrating local pride as the flame journeyed through iconic sites.
Highlights of the Torch Relay in Macao
The relay commenced at the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) government headquarters. Chief Executive Sam Hou-fai ignited the first torch, which was then passed to Li Yi. Notably, Li Yi is recognized for winning a gold medal in women’s changquan at the Hangzhou Asian Games in 2023.
Route and Participation
The route stretched approximately 2.6 kilometers across the Macao Peninsula. It featured several prominent landmarks and culminated at the historic Ruins of St. Paul’s, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Kuok Kin-hang expressed his pride after carrying the flame to light the cauldron, stating, “I feel very honored and happy to be the final torchbearer.” He emphasized that this moment would be “remembered for a lifetime.”
Historic Cross-Boundary Torch Relay
This year’s torch relay marked a historic milestone, as it occurred simultaneously in multiple locations: Hong Kong, Macao, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen. This was the first cross-boundary torch relay in National Games history and the inaugural occasion for the torch to be carried in both Hong Kong and Macao.
The vibrant atmosphere during the relay underscored the spirit of unity and celebration across these regions, highlighting the importance of the Games in fostering regional pride and showcasing sporting excellence.
