Hart Reveals Nerve Issue Following Standout Performance
After an impressive performance, Josh Hart, forward for the New York Knicks, revealed an ongoing nerve issue in his right hand. In the Knicks’ recent victory over the Chicago Bulls on Sunday, Hart contributed 14 points, along with 9 rebounds and 3 assists. However, he admitted that he still lacks full sensation in his shooting hand.
Performance Amid Adversity
Hart’s latest game came as he struggled with a nerve problem that causes tingling and numbness. He expressed hope that his condition would improve over time. “Hopefully, at some point, that nerve will get back to where it was,” he stated after the game.
The Knicks currently stand at a 3-3 record, and Hart’s slow start has been a factor. He missed the opening game of the season due to a back issue, which also sidelined him during much of the preseason. In his first four games, he managed just 11 points on a challenging shooting performance of 4-for-19, including a disappointing 1-for-10 from beyond the arc.
Mindset and Team Dynamics
With challenges affecting his performance, Hart’s focus during the game against the Bulls was on energy and effort. “For me, I’m going through some adversity both physically and mentally,” Hart explained. “My biggest thing today was playing with energy.”
Despite shooting inconsistencies—Hart hit only 1-for-4 in three-point attempts in the game—his hustle and determination shone through. His teammate, Jalen Brunson, praised Hart’s attitude: “The one we know and love,” he said, recognizing Hart’s effort in light of his struggles.
Injury and Role Changes
Hart faced additional challenges this season as he transitioned from a starter under former coach Tom Thibodeau to a bench player under Mike Brown. The change in roles has brought its own pressures. Hart has ruled out surgery for his finger injury, which he initially sustained during last season’s playoffs.
Brown, the Knicks’ current head coach, said he was unaware of Hart’s nerve issues but acknowledged the challenges of adjusting to a new system. He emphasized Hart’s impressive contributions given the time missed: “He’s playing catch-up, and he’s doing a heck of a job.”
As Hart navigates through these physical and mental hurdles, the hope remains that he will continue improving, benefiting both himself and the Knicks as the season progresses.
