Marlins Elevate Gabe Kapler to General Manager, Revise Two Other Roles

The Miami Marlins have announced a significant shift in their management structure, promoting Gabe Kapler to general manager. This new role positions him as the second-in-command in baseball operations, reporting directly to president of baseball operations, Peter Bendix.

Marlins Management Changes

This announcement came on a Monday, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the Marlins. Kapler has been a vital part of the organization over the last two years, serving as one of the assistant general managers alongside Brian Chattin. His primary responsibilities included player and staff development.

Player Development Success

During Kapler’s tenure, the Marlins’ minor-league system saw impressive achievements. Four of the team’s minor league affiliates reached the postseason, culminating in a championship for the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp in Triple-A.

Kapler’s Vision for the Future

In a statement, Gabe Kapler expressed his enthusiasm about his new role. He emphasized the importance of collaboration among the Marlins’ staff and the clear vision that has spurred recent successes.

“The growth and momentum we’ve built are a direct reflection of a clear vision, a strong culture, and an incredible team working together,” Kapler stated.

Additional Promotions within the Organization

Alongside Kapler’s elevation, two other key promotions were announced within the Marlins’ baseball operations department. Frankie Piliere, who served as the director of amateur scouting, has been promoted to vice president of amateur forecasting and player evaluation initiatives. Over the past two years, Piliere oversaw the MLB drafts, which contributed to Miami acquiring nine of its current top 30 prospects.

Furthermore, Vinesh Kanthan, initially appointed as a director of baseball operations, now steps into the senior director of baseball operations role.

Commitment to Excellence

President Peter Bendix acknowledged the contributions of Kapler, Piliere, and Kanthan. He highlighted their dedication to innovation and teamwork, core values essential to the Marlins’ organizational culture.

“Their advancement is a testament to the caliber of talent and person within our organization and our continued commitment to building a culture of collaboration and excellence,” Bendix remarked.
