In a recent interview with the Sunday Times Culture magazine, Hopkins expressed his thoughts on this conjecture. He stated, “I’m obsessed with numbers. I’m obsessed with detail. I like everything in order.” His wife, Stella, reportedly researched these traits and suggested he might have Asperger’s syndrome. However, Hopkins was dismissive of the label. “I don’t even believe it,” he remarked, highlighting his skepticism about modern diagnoses.
His View on Labels
Hopkins conveyed a cynical perspective towards the current trend of labeling behaviors. He noted, “Well, I guess I’m cynical because it’s all nonsense.” According to him, terms like ADHD, OCD, and Asperger’s are just part of a societal fashion. “It’s called living. It’s just being a human being,” he added.
Feelings of Embarrassment
Despite his success, Hopkins has expressed discomfort about his career as an actor. He conveyed feelings of embarrassment and questioned the value of his profession. “I think maybe it’s some kind of embarrassment that I’m an actor. No, I’ve not done a stroke of work in my life,” he said. He reflected on his life, acknowledging that his accomplishments pale in comparison to those who perform manual labor or service-oriented jobs.
Reflections on His Knighthood
In addition to his Hollywood fame, Hopkins was honored with a knighthood in 1993. However, he doesn’t place much importance on this title. In his new memoir, “We Did OK, Kid,” he didn’t mention his knighthood. When questioned about this omission, he simply stated, “Oh. Is that rude? I forgot.”
Hopkins maintains a humble stance towards his title, indicating, “You don’t have to call me Sir Anthony. I can’t go around with that albatross around my neck.” His attitude reflects a disinterest in formalities and a focus on authenticity in both life and art.
