Met Éireann Issues Status Yellow Rain Warning Sparking Flood Concerns in Four Irish Counties

Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow Rain Warning due to expected heavy rainfall and flooding risks in four Irish counties. This warning will be active from midnight tonight until midday on Tuesday. The counties affected include Waterford, Wexford, Wicklow, and Carlow.

Weather Warning Details

The national meteorological service has cautioned that the anticipated downpours may result in localised flooding, challenging travel conditions, and reduced visibility.

Previous Warnings Expire

Earlier today, a separate Status Yellow rain warning had been in effect for counties Clare, Kerry, Galway, and Mayo. This warning lasted from 8 PM on Sunday until 8 PM today, with heavy rainfall experienced predominantly across the western regions of the country.

Weather Conditions Ahead

As night falls, rain is projected to persist mainly in Munster and southern Leinster, potentially becoming heavy in some areas. Meanwhile, northern regions are likely to see clearer and drier weather, though scattered showers may occur. Expect temperatures to dip between 10°C and 14°C.

Tuesday Forecast

  • Rain is expected to spread north across the country on Tuesday morning.
  • Afternoon showers will develop, clearing northeast in the evening.
  • Temperatures may reach a high of 16°C in some areas.
  • Winds are forecasted to ease later in the day.

Tuesday night is likely to start off clear, with a chance of early showers. However, cloud cover will increase overnight, leading to rain and drizzle moving in from the south. Nighttime temperatures are predicted to fall between 8°C and 12°C, with milder conditions expected in the southeast.

Continued Unsettled Weather

Aoife Kealy, a meteorologist with Met Éireann, has indicated that the unsettled weather conditions will persist throughout the week. Frequent spells of wet and blustery weather are anticipated, although temperatures will remain relatively mild for the season.
