November Hurricane Threatens Florida: Latest Impact Forecast
AccuWeather meteorologists are closely watching a region in the southwestern Caribbean that could spawn a tropical storm or hurricane. With about four weeks remaining in the Atlantic hurricane season, environmental conditions appear conducive to storm development.
Current Situation and Forecast
The Atlantic hurricane season commenced on June 1 and will conclude on November 30. Thus far, there have been 13 named storms during this period. Recent concerns stem from Hurricane Melissa, which struck the Caribbean as a formidable Category 5 storm, devastating Jamaica and later impacting Cuba and the Bahamas before exiting toward the Atlantic.
Despite the season nearing its end, meteorologists caution residents in hurricane-prone areas to stay alert. A new forecast from AccuWeather suggests potential storm activity in the Caribbean, particularly where warm waters may encourage development.
Monitoring Areas
- AccuWeather’s meteorologists are focusing on the southwestern Caribbean, especially south of Cuba and northwest of Colombia.
 - Warm ocean waters and low wind shear are key factors ripe for tropical storm formation.
 - While the National Hurricane Center (NHC) is not currently observing any systems, AccuWeather experts are vigilant.

Potential Impact on Florida
According to Alex DaSilva, AccuWeather’s Lead Hurricane Expert, the atmospheric conditions could support development until mid-November. If a storm does form, it is likely to move toward Central America or Mexico, with Florida facing a low risk of significant impacts. This low risk level is similar to that of Cuba, the Bahamas, and parts of Central America.
Historical Context
November storms are relatively uncommon, averaging one named storm every other year. However, recent trends show an increase in late-season storm occurrences, a phenomenon attributed to warmer sea surface temperatures.
For instance, November 2024 saw three named storms in the Atlantic Basin, one reaching hurricane status, illustrating a shift in storm patterns.
Future Outlook
As of now, both AccuWeather and the NHC report no active named storms. Nevertheless, residents in susceptible areas should remain informed and prepared as the season progresses.
