Houston Airports Face Major Delays from TSA Lines During Government Shutdown
Travelers heading to Houston airports should prepare for significant delays due to a government shutdown impacting TSA staffing levels. Both George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) are experiencing extended security wait times.
Major Delays at Houston Airports
At George Bush Intercontinental Airport, security lines may exceed three hours. Due to the shutdown, many TSA agents are unable to report to work and are calling out without pay. Currently, TSA checkpoints at Terminals A and E are open, while Terminal C is designated for United Airlines passengers who need to check their luggage.
Impact on Travelers
At Hobby Airport, security wait times have surpassed one hour, with limited screening available. Passengers have reported long waits, with some missing their flights entirely. Several travelers expressed frustration about the situation.
- Imani Keelin noted a wait of two and a half hours, which delayed her flight.
 - Leslie Lemon mentioned a similarly long wait, while trying to maintain a positive attitude.

Images from Sunday evening reflected the long lines at Terminal E, extending outside the airport building. Despite efforts by airport staff to expedite the process, passengers continued to face lengthy delays.
Airport Advice for Travelers
The Houston Airport System encourages passengers to arrive early to mitigate potential delays. Recommended arrival times are:
- Three hours prior for international flights.
 - Two hours prior for domestic flights.

This advice aims to provide travelers with adequate time for parking, luggage checks, and security processing. Officials at both airports appreciate travelers’ patience as TSA personnel work to ensure safety amidst the staffing challenges.
