Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Optimistic for Garrett Wilson’s Injury Return This Week

The New York Jets are hopeful about the return of wide receiver Garrett Wilson for their upcoming game against the Cleveland Browns. Wilson, who has been sidelined due to a hyperextended knee, is expected to practice starting Wednesday. He has not participated in practice since injuring himself during the team’s narrow loss to the Denver Broncos.

Garrett Wilson’s Impact on the Jets’ Offense

Garrett Wilson leads the Jets this season with 36 receptions totaling 395 yards and four touchdowns. His absence has been felt by the team, but head coach Aaron Glenn expressed optimism regarding Wilson’s return. “He’s going to practice this week, so I’m looking forward to him getting out and practicing,” Glenn noted in a press conference. Although he refrained from stating definitively that Wilson would play on Sunday, the positive news is reassuring for Jets fans.

Support from Teammates

  • Joe Tippmann, a guard for the Jets, highlighted the team’s effort in Wilson’s absence, crediting receiver Tyler Johnson for stepping up. He mentioned, “Having him back … he’s a weapon in the offense, so it’d be huge.”
  • Tight end Jeremy Ruckert echoed this sentiment, emphasizing Wilson’s unique skill set and energy. “You can’t really fill that void,” Ruckert added. “Whenever he gets back, I think he’s going to step in and be himself right away.”

Injury Updates

In contrast, the Jets will sadly miss safety Andre Cisco for the remainder of the season due to a shoulder injury sustained against the Bengals. Glenn confirmed, “Andre’s out for the season,” and added that Cisco will also address additional issues in his arm while undergoing treatment.

Other Players Joining Practice

Along with Wilson, several players are expected to join practice on Wednesday:

  • Tight End Mason Taylor
  • Tight End Stone Smartt
  • Quarterback Tyrod Taylor
  • Running Back Breece Hall

Glenn also mentioned cornerback Sauce Gardner, kick returner Kene Nwangwu, and linebacker Kiko Mauigoa are nearing the end of their concussion protocols. “I’m assuming that will go perfect, so I’m looking forward to those guys getting out and practicing also,” he stated.

Potential New Addition to the Roster

The Jets recently acquired receiver John Metchie III in a trade with the Eagles. Coach Glenn indicated that Metchie might be available to contribute soon, though he is cautious not to place excessive expectations on the newcomer. “Let’s see how he operates this week,” Glenn remarked.

As the Jets prepare for their match against the Browns, the return of Garrett Wilson is eagerly anticipated. His presence could significantly impact the team’s offensive strategy moving forward.
