LSU Board Set to Appoint New University President Tuesday Morning

Wade Rousse has been appointed as the new President of Louisiana State University (LSU) by the university’s Board of Supervisors. His appointment was made during a meeting held on a Tuesday morning. Rousse, currently serving as the president of McNeese State University, steps into this role following the departure of William F. Tate IV, who left LSU over the summer to join Rutgers University.

Leadership Transition at LSU

Since Tate’s departure, Matt Lee has assumed the position of interim president. Rousse expressed his enthusiasm for the new responsibility, stating, “I am so excited to serve in this role.” He highlighted a structured approach to his leadership, indicating significant changes ahead.

Focus on Athletics

One of Rousse’s key initiatives will involve LSU Athletics. Under his leadership, the athletic department will report directly to him. This change may impact the future selection processes for prominent roles within the athletics division, including the hiring of a new football coach and athletic director, following the exits of Brian Kelly and Scott Woodward.

Key Appointments in LSU Leadership

James T. Dalton was another finalist for the presidency. Following Rousse’s selection, Dalton will take on the roles of Executive Vice President and Provost at LSU. He will also act in a chancellor-like capacity for the Baton Rouge campus. Before this appointment, Dalton held the position of Executive Vice President at the University of Alabama.

The third finalist for the presidency was Robert Robbins, the former president of the University of Arizona. A formal news conference to introduce Wade Rousse to the LSU community is scheduled to take place at the LSU Foundation building.
