LSU Appoints New University President
The Board of Supervisors at Louisiana State University (LSU) has selected Wade Rousse as the new university president. The decision was finalized on November 4, during a board meeting held in Baton Rouge. Rousse will serve as the 29th President of LSU.
Background of Wade Rousse
Wade Rousse currently holds the position of President at McNeese State University. He has a diverse career background that includes experience in the private sector and founding an alternative investment company that specialized in market strategies. His appointment comes at a time when he emphasizes the importance of business acumen in securing funding for research initiatives at LSU.
Selection Process Insights
The vote to appoint Rousse was overwhelmingly in favor, with a tally of 12-1. Laurie Lipsey Aronson, a member of the LSU Board of Supervisors, cast the sole dissenting vote. The university community had a chance to engage with Rousse and other candidates during interviews conducted with students, faculty, and local leaders in the lead-up to the decision.
New Leadership Roles
Alongside Rousse’s appointment, Dr. James Dalton has been designated as the Executive Vice President of LSU. Dalton previously served as provost at the University of Alabama and was one of the top three finalists for the presidency. Another finalist was Robert Robbins, M.D., former president of the University of Arizona.
Transition in University Leadership
This appointment comes after William Tate, the previous president, departed LSU in May 2025 to assume the presidency at Rutgers University in New Jersey. The university community looks forward to Rousse’s leadership and vision for the future of LSU.
