Larimer County Clerk Predicts 40% Voter Turnout
The Larimer County Clerk’s Office is gearing up for an expected 40% voter turnout for the recent election. Voters had until 7 p.m. on Tuesday to submit their ballots. By Tuesday morning, approximately 79,258 ballots had been collected, reflecting a turnout rate of about 29%.
Voter Turnout Predictions
Tina Harris, the Clerk and Recorder, expressed optimism regarding the turnout. She noted that the participation rate usually increases as more voters return their ballots throughout the day. “I anticipate that when this is all said and done we’ll probably be in the 40s,” Harris stated.
Current Participation Rates
- 79,258 ballots received by Tuesday morning
- 29% current turnout rate
According to Harris, activity at drop boxes and vote centers suggested many voters were waiting until Election Day to cast their ballots. The county’s election data dashboard will be updated continuously as more ballots are processed.
Election Staff and Processing
More than 200 election judges were stationed at the county’s counting facility. These temporary, bipartisan employees were working diligently to ensure ballots were counted promptly. The facility was prepared ahead of the 2024 election to manage the increased staff and space needed for counting.
Counting Process
Harris remarked, “Things are flying down at the counting facility.” The counting process would extend late into the night and continue on Wednesday morning. Preliminary vote totals are expected to be released after the initial count.
Post-Election Procedures
Following the preliminary releases, a “risk-limiting audit” of the election will occur. This audit aims to verify the results and will include a ballot curing process. During this phase, voters with discrepancies in their signature or other issues will be contacted to confirm their votes.
The official certification of the election results is scheduled for completion by November 26.
