The high wind watches are effective from Wednesday evening through Thursday morning. As the cold front moves in, southwest winds will strengthen throughout the day, with gusts expected to reach 20 to 30 mph by late afternoon.

Severe Winds Expected Wednesday Night

After the cold front passes on Wednesday evening, stronger northwest winds will begin to develop. The NWS predicts gusts of 45 to 60 mph in northern New Jersey counties. This extreme weather is anticipated to last for about six to nine hours, starting Wednesday night, before subsiding by Thursday morning.

Areas south of the watch zone, particularly near the Interstate 95 corridor, may still experience significant gusts ranging from 45 to 55 mph. The NWS has warned that these winds could cause damage to trees and power lines, creating hazardous conditions across the region.

Weather Outlook for the Week

Wednesday will witness mild temperatures in the 60s across New Jersey. However, temperatures will drop overnight, ranging from the mid-30s in the north to the mid-40s in the south. By Thursday, cooler conditions are expected, with high temperatures ranging from the low 50s in the northern parts to the mid-upper 50s in the south.

  • Thursday: Highs in the low 50s to mid-upper 50s, with diminishing winds.
  • Friday: High temperatures in the upper 50s to lower 60s, with rain expected Friday night.

As another storm system approaches on Friday, widespread showers are forecasted, though rainfall amounts are expected to be under half an inch. Overnight lows are predicted to be mild, in the mid-40s in the north and low-mid 50s in the south.

Cold Front Expected This Weekend

Conditions will improve as the cold front clears the coast by Saturday afternoon, leading to cooler temperatures. Another storm system is anticipated to affect New Jersey from Sunday into Monday, bringing additional rain and colder air.

This cold spell may result in temperatures dropping below freezing across the state by Monday night. New Jersey residents should prepare for much colder weather in the early part of next week, with temperatures potentially 10 degrees or more below average.
