Armenian Prime Minister Highlights Central Asian Nations as Key Beneficiaries of Crossroads of Peace and TRIPP Projects
On November 4, 2023, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan emphasized the significance of Central Asian nations as key beneficiaries of the Crossroads of Peace and the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) projects. During a Q&A session at the Orbeli Forum titled ‘Establishing Peace and Multilateral Cooperation’, Pashinyan discussed the potential advantages these projects offer to the region.
Crossroads of Peace and TRIPP Projects
Pashinyan pointed out that both Armenia and Kazakhstan are members of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). This organization promotes the movement of goods, services, labor, and capital among its member states. However, he noted that the mutual trade turnover between these countries does not reflect the EAEU’s goals. The trade volume remains low due to inadequate communication routes.
Recent Developments in Trade
A recent milestone in this relationship was Kazakhstan’s first shipment of wheat to Armenia via rail through Azerbaijan. This development followed an announcement by Azerbaijan’s president to lift all transit restrictions for cargo destined for Armenia. Pashinyan acknowledged the importance of this statement, citing its benefits not only for Armenia but also for other Central Asian nations.
Enhancing Relationships with Uzbekistan
Pashinyan also expressed Armenia’s desire to strengthen political and economic ties with Uzbekistan. He described this initiative as promising but acknowledged the logistical challenges involved. He believes that the effective execution of these projects will facilitate cooperation and ultimately enhance Armenia’s interactions with various Central Asian countries.
