Players Intensely Compare Over 70 Maps Across Battlefield Games
In recent months, Battlefield fans have engaged deeply in discussions about the sizes of maps across multiple games in the popular series. Players took it upon themselves to analyze and compare nearly every multiplayer map from the past 15 years. This extensive project was spearheaded by Reddit users ClaraTheRed and PENGUINonPC.
Map Size Comparison Across Battlefield Games
The collaborative study focuses on maps from several titles, including:
- Battlefield 3
- Battlefield 4
- Battlefield: Hardline
- Battlefield 1
- Battlefield 2042
- Battlefield 6
It showcases a total of 72 maps and organizes them by game mode and player count. The analysis features side-by-side comparisons and color-coded horizontal bar graphs. This allows players to visualize the evolution of map sizes used by Electronic Arts (EA) over time.
Battlefield 6 Map Insights
After over 45 hours of meticulous work, the analysis revealed that Battlefield 6 does not measure up to some of the larger maps found in earlier games. While many maps from Battlefield 6, such as Iberian Offensive and Siege of Cairo, are comparable in size to those from Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 1, none of its maps appear in the top 20 largest maps in the series.
The largest map in Battlefield 6, Operation Firestorm, ranks only 32nd for total playable area and 22nd for total map area, despite being a revised version of a Battlefield 3 map. It’s noteworthy that the study omitted certain maps, including those from Battlefield V due to difficulties in data collection.
Future Updates and Community Reactions
EA continues to enhance Battlefield 6 with updates post-launch. Season 1 introduced a medium-sized map, Blackwell Fields, with another map, Eastwood, set to debut soon. Additionally, Battlefield REDSEC, a standalone offshoot connected to Battlefield 6, features the newly launched Fort Lyndon, which EA claims is the largest map in Battlefield history, although the community has classified it separately due to its battle royale nature.
Fans have been vocal about their desires for larger maps. The community remains divided, with some defending the current map offerings, while others express dissatisfaction through review-bombing tactics. ClaraTheRed acknowledges this discourse, emphasizing that the goal of their study is to provide a broader context regarding the variability of map sizes in the series over the years.
As Battlefield 6 evolves, players can expect continued analysis of new maps with each upcoming season. This ongoing evaluation will help shape community expectations and discussions moving forward.
