Utah Ski Season Delays Its Start Time
Brian Head Resort has announced a delay in its ski season opening due to unseasonably warm weather. Originally set for Nov. 7, the anticipated opening date has been pushed back to Nov. 14, 2023.
Impact of Weather on Utah Ski Season
The ski resort, located near Cedar City, boasts the highest base elevation in Utah at 9,000 feet. Despite recent snowfall of five inches, warmer temperatures have hindered snowmaking efforts.
Details of the Delay
Temperatures at the resort’s weather station, which sits at about 10,600 feet, have consistently remained in the 40s. Lows have not dipped below freezing, making it challenging to create snow. The optimal wet-bulb temperature for effective snowmaking is 28 degrees Fahrenheit, which has only been achievable for a limited time.
- Original Opening Date: November 7, 2023
- New Projected Opening Date: November 14, 2023
- Base Elevation: 9,000 feet
- Recent Snowfall: 5 inches
Statements from Resort Management
Amber Palmer, the marketing manager of Brian Head, expressed eagerness to welcome visitors while acknowledging the weather’s impact on operations. She stated, “Our mountain operations team is working hard to make snow every time temperatures drop.”
