Peloton Recalls 833,000 Bikes Due to Faulty Seat Posts

Peloton has announced a significant recall of approximately 833,000 units of its original Bike Plus due to safety concerns. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission revealed that faulty seat posts can break and detach during use, posing a risk of injury.

Details of the Recall

This recall affects Bike Plus units sold between January 2020 and April 2025. The affected bikes were produced in Taiwan from 2019 to 2022 and were available for purchase directly from Peloton, as well as through third-party retailers, including Dick’s Sporting Goods, eBay, and Amazon.

Model Identification

To determine if your Bike Plus is part of the recall, look for the model number PL02 and serial numbers that begin with “T.”

Injuries Reported

Peloton has received three reports of seat post breakages along with two instances of injuries resulting from falls. This serious issue has prompted the company to take swift action.

Remedial Action

In response to the recall, Peloton is providing affected users with a free redesigned seat post replacement. Owners can install this new part themselves to enhance safety.

Marcio Oliveira, Peloton’s senior vice president of Global Hardware Operations and Product Safety, emphasized the importance of product integrity and customer well-being. He encouraged affected users to request the redesigned seat post promptly.

Historical Context

This is not Peloton’s first recall related to seat posts. In 2023, the company recalled 2 million units of its original Bike, which resulted in 35 breakage reports and 13 reported injuries. While the original Bike and Bike Plus are similar, their seat post designs differ slightly.

Timing of Recall

The recall announcement comes just before Peloton’s earnings report scheduled for later today at 5 PM ET. This quarter’s financial performance is particularly crucial as it follows a significant hardware update and the introduction of a new AI fitness coaching feature.
