Otsego County’s recent election unveiled key results for both the Gaylord City Council and the career and technical education (CTE) proposal. Voters made significant choices that will impact local governance and education.

Gaylord City Council Election Results

In the election for the Gaylord City Council, six candidates vied for three seats. The candidates included:

  • Pieternel Feeheley
  • Ryan Kennedy
  • Vic Ouellette
  • Taylor Peterson
  • Hannah Techel
  • Alan Witt

Unofficial results indicate that Vic Ouellette secured the most votes with 382, followed by Hannah Techel with 355, and Ryan Kennedy with 316. The remaining candidates received the following votes:

  • Alan Witt: 232
  • Taylor Peterson: 222
  • Pieternel Feeheley: 84

These results are provisional and will be officially certified by the Board of Canvassers.

CTE Proposal Results

The proposal for the Cheboygan-Otsego-Presque Isle Educational Service District (COPESD) to implement a CTE millage was not approved. According to unofficial summaries from the Cheboygan County Clerk, the votes totaled:

  • No votes: 6,947
  • Yes votes: 5,737

In Otsego County specifically, there were 1,928 votes in favor and 2,468 against the measure. This total also comprises votes from two townships in Charlevoix County and two townships in Emmet County, which recorded 41 yes votes and 91 no votes.

This six-year, one-mill proposal aimed to enhance career and technical education offerings for local school districts within the COPESD. The districts affected include:
