Celebrity Race Across The World Contestants Set Record Reaching Checkpoint a Day Early

In an impressive debut for the third series of Celebrity Race Across The World, Anita Rani and her father, Bal, topped the leaderboard by reaching the first checkpoint over 23 hours ahead of their competitors. The show, which aired on Emegypt, features four celebrity-fueled teams tackling a 3,670-mile journey across Central America without mobile phones or internet access.

Anita and Bal Lead the Competition

Premiering on a Thursday night, the race tasks contestants with navigating through five checkpoints, starting from Isla Mujeres off the eastern coast of Mexico. Anita Rani, known for her work on BBC Radio 4’s Women’s Hour, expressed her disbelief after arriving first in Flores, Guatemala.

“What we did right was be decisive,” Anita shared after their triumph. “It feels so good to be first in the first leg.”

The Journey Begins

Each contestant received a travel kit that included a GPS device, a map, and £950 in cash to cover their expenses. The race requires contestants to travel through Belize, where they visited significant sites like the Jaguar Temple, an ancient Mayan ruin.

Anita reflected on her father’s sacrifices, stating, “He’s never been able to fulfill any of his dreams, and that saddens me.” She wanted to provide him with a magical experience on this journey.

Challenges and Competitions

The other teams faced their own unique challenges along the way. Roman and Harleymoon Kemp, who arrived second after days of travel, acknowledged Anita and Bal’s strong performance. Tyler and Molly expressed pride in immersing themselves in Mexican culture, with Tyler stating, “We actually experienced Mexico.”

Despite taking a more relaxed approach, Dylan and Jackie were not far behind. They were pleasantly surprised by their performance, which motivated them to strive harder in the coming legs of the race.
