Elder Gérald Caussé has been appointed as the newest member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. At 62 years old, Elder Caussé hails from Bordeaux, France. Prior to his new role, he was serving as the Church’s Presiding Bishop for eleven years. Notably, Elder Caussé is the third Presiding Bishop not born in the United States and the first whose primary language is not English.

Early Life and Family
Elder Caussé was born on May 20, 1963, to Jean and Marie-Blanche Caussé. He moved to Paris at 19 and served a year in the military. It was there he met Valérie Babin, with whom he later married on August 5, 1986, at the Bern Switzerland Temple. The couple has five children.
Throughout his service, Elder Caussé and his family made significant moves, first to Germany and then to the United States. He expressed gratitude for his children’s resilience during these transitions.

His church assignments have included serving as a counselor in the Presiding Bishopric from 2012 to 2015 and as a General Authority Seventy from 2008 to 2012.
