Monterey County Begins Partial SNAP/CalFresh Benefits Distribution Next Week

Monterey County is set to begin the partial distribution of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and CalFresh benefits next week. Federal authorization has permitted the release of these funds, with distribution scheduled for the week of November 10, 2025.

Details of the SNAP/CalFresh Benefits Distribution

Maia Carroll, the county’s public information officer, confirmed the upcoming distribution. The exact date will be announced soon as the State prepares to issue partial CalFresh benefits.

Residents Encouraged to Stay Updated

SNAP and CalFresh recipients are urged to monitor updates as more information will be released. For any inquiries about benefits or food resources, residents can contact:

  • 211 for general assistance
  • The County of Monterey Department of Social Services at 877-410-8823

In-person support is available at the following locations:

  • King City: 116 Broadway St.
  • Seaside: 1281 Broadway Ave.
  • Salinas: 1000 S. Main St., Suite 216

Support for Local Food Banks

In light of the delays, Monterey County has pledged $150,000 to bolster local food banks. This one-time funding aims to assist community members relying on CalFresh benefits.

Carroll noted the importance of collaboration, stating, “The County is encouraging partner jurisdictions to consider joining us and give if they can.”

Encouraging CalFresh Applications

The Department of Social Services is still promoting CalFresh applications during this period of disruption. Typically, application numbers increase in late fall and winter as seasonal employment in agriculture and hospitality declines.

However, the county has recently experienced a decrease in applications. Out of approximately 51,000 individuals receiving CalFresh benefits in Monterey County, 29,000 are children. Many of these beneficiaries have jobs but still depend on the program to fulfill their food needs.
