John Ross Galbraith Leads Slow Yet Steady Irish Effort at Qualifying School
At the Final Stage of the DP World Tour Qualifying School in Spain, Irish golfers faced a challenging start. The event took place at Infinitum Golf in Tarragona. Of the five Irish players, only three managed to break par.
John Ross Galbraith: Leading the Irish Effort
John Ross Galbraith from Whitehead emerged as the best performer among the Irish contingent. He finished with a score of two-under 70 at the Hills Course. However, this placed him in a tie for 42nd, leaving him just two strokes shy of the crucial top 20 cutoff.
Overall Performance of Irish Players
- Max Kennedy (Royal Dublin) and Conor Purcell (Portmarnock) both ended with one-under 70s, ranking 63rd.
- Mark Power from Kilkenny scored a level par 71, placing him in 86th.
- Cormac Sharvin recorded a one-over 73, finishing in 108th place.
Despite some impressive individual plays, the group overall struggled to find consistency. Kennedy notably made five consecutive birdies but suffered a triple bogey on the fifth hole, which hindered his overall score. Conor Purcell was in contention with a good score until a challenging finish on the 18th hole led to a six.
Leaders of the Qualifying School
The competition saw top performances from other golfers as well. Australia’s Connor McKinney led the standings with a bogey-free nine-under 62 at the Lakes Course. He finished two strokes ahead of competitors Cedric Gugler from Switzerland, Zander Lombard from South Africa, and American Alex Goff, who played at the Hills Course.
Qualification for Final Rounds
Looking ahead, only the top 60 players and ties will progress to the last two rounds. This leaves a tough road ahead for the Irish players as they aim to secure their spots on the DP World Tour.
