Met Éireann Expands Rain Warning to Eight Counties with Overnight Temperatures Plummeting to 1C

Met Éireann has issued an expanded rain warning for eight counties in Ireland, anticipating significant rainfall and potential adverse conditions. The warnings are categorized into two separate Status Yellow alerts.

Details of the Rain Warnings

  • The first warning applies to Cork and Kerry, effective from midnight until 2 PM on Tuesday.
  • The second warning covers Waterford, Wexford, Carlow, Kilkenny, Wicklow, and Tipperary, lasting from 2 AM until 5 PM on Tuesday.

All eight regions are expected to experience heavy rainfall. Met Éireann cautioned that localized flooding, difficult travel conditions, and reduced visibility are likely in these areas.

Forecast and Weather Conditions

After a clear day, the weather is predicted to become overcast and misty this morning. Rain in north Connacht and north Ulster will clear northward, while the rest of the country may witness a mix of sunny spells and light showers.

This evening, cloud cover is expected to thicken in the southwest. Today’s temperatures are forecasted to range from 9 to 12°C. However, tonight will bring persistent and heavy rain starting in the southwest, spreading across the country overnight.

Expected Temperature Drops

Temperatures will plummet, ranging between 1°C and 7°C. Ulster is predicted to experience the lowest temperatures before the rain arrives.

Upcoming Week’s Weather

Tuesday will likely remain wet, with heavy rain in many areas and risks of further localized flooding. The rain should gradually move northward by late afternoon, leaving only sporadic showers in its wake.

Temperatures are projected to be between 11°C and 14°C, with strong winds affecting the southeast and east coasts. As the rain clears tomorrow night, a mixture of clear weather and showers may follow. Overnight temperatures could drop to between 6°C and 10°C.

Gerry Murphy, a meteorologist with Met Éireann, noted that the weather pattern for the week will remain unsettled and relatively mild for this time of year, with rain or showers occurring at various times.
