East Tennessee is bracing for extreme winter weather. An Arctic Blast is sweeping through the region, bringing cold temperatures, strong winds, and snowfall.
Winter Weather Alerts in Effect
On Monday, residents are urged to dress warmly. Gloves, hats, and heavy coats will be necessary as temperatures hover in the 30s. However, strong winds will create a wind chill that feels like the teens and twenties.
Snowfall Forecast
Round two of snowfall is anticipated on Monday afternoon and evening. While the mountains are expected to see the most accumulation, the Cumberland Plateau and valleys may also experience flurries.
- Winter Weather Advisory: In effect until 7 PM Monday.
- Winter Storm Warning: Active for Cocke, Sevier, and Blount County mountains until Tuesday morning.
- Predicted snowfall:
- 2″-4″ in the mountains.
- Higher peaks over 5,000 feet: Up to 8 inches, possibly a foot by Tuesday morning.
Upcoming Conditions
A hard freeze is anticipated overnight from Monday into Tuesday, with temperatures dropping to the mid-20s. Residents are advised to protect plants and pipes from freezing conditions.
By Tuesday afternoon, temperatures are projected to rise to the mid-40s, providing some respite from the cold.
