Met Éireann Issues Rain Warning for Seven Counties with Overnight Temperatures Plummeting to 1C
Met Éireann has issued rain warnings for several counties in Ireland due to forecasted adverse weather conditions. Counties affected include Cork, Kerry, Waterford, Wexford, Carlow, Kilkenny, Wicklow, and Tipperary.
Details of the Rain Warnings
There are two distinct Status Yellow warnings in place:
- Cork and Kerry: Warning begins at midnight and lasts until 2 PM on Tuesday.
- Other counties: Waterford, Wexford, Carlow, Kilkenny, Wicklow, and Tipperary will have a warning from 2 AM to 5 PM tomorrow.
All affected areas are expected to experience heavy rainfall. Met Éireann cautions that localised flooding, difficult travel conditions, and reduced visibility may occur.
Weather Forecast and Temperature Drop
Following a relatively pleasant day, the forecast for tonight indicates a transition to mostly cloudy conditions. While northern Connacht and Ulster will see rain clear by morning, the southwest will begin with dry weather before heavy rain sets in. This rain will spread northward overnight, potentially causing spot flooding.
Temperature Expected
Temperatures are predicted to plummet overnight, ranging from 1°C to 7°C. Ulster is likely to experience the coldest temperatures before the anticipated rainfall arrives.
Upcoming Weather Outlook
The coming week is expected to remain unsettled, with temperatures fluctuating between 11°C and 14°C. Strong winds will affect the southeast and east coasts, with rain expected to clear to the north early tomorrow night. Following this, a mix of clear conditions and intermittent showers is likely.
According to Met Éireann meteorologist Gerry Murphy, the weather will stay relatively mild for this season, with rain and showers expected at times throughout the week.
