President Catherine Connolly Pledges to Be a Catalyst for Change in the Next Seven Years

In a historic ceremony at St Patrick’s Hall, Dublin Castle, Catherine Connolly was inaugurated as the 10th President of Ireland. The event, attended by prominent figures including the Taoiseach, Tánaiste, and former presidents, took place on November 11. Ms. Connolly emphasized her commitment to being a “catalyst for change” during her seven-year term.

In her inaugural address, President Connolly reflected on the public mandate she received. She intends to champion social issues such as diversity, climate justice, and housing rights. “A home is a fundamental human right,” she stated, addressing the pressing housing crisis in Ireland.

Ms. Connolly highlighted her campaign’s focus on neutrality, marking the significance of her inauguration date coinciding with Remembrance Day. First Responsibilities

After her speech, President Connolly conducted her first inspection of the Guard of Honour. The Air Corps performed a fly-past as a show of respect for the new president. Streets buzzed with excitement as she greeted local school children before departing for her residence at Áras an Uachtaráin.

In terms of her attire, Ms. Connolly wore a striking purple outfit designed by Irish designer Louise Kennedy, symbolizing continuity with the country’s presidential history.
