Zdeno Chara, Joe Thornton, and Jack Parker Among 8 Inducted into Hockey Hall
On November 8, 2025, Zdeno Chara, Joe Thornton, and Jack Parker were honored at the Hockey Hall of Fame induction ceremony. This occasion recognized their significant contributions to the sport and their respective teams.
Zdeno Chara’s Historic Career
Zdeno Chara had a remarkable 24-year career in the NHL, primarily with the Boston Bruins. He played from 2006 to 2020 and captained the team for 14 seasons.
Under Chara’s leadership, the Bruins reached three Stanley Cup Finals and won the championship in 2011. Reflecting on his captaincy, Chara stated, “Being named captain was a tremendous honor.” He expressed gratitude towards his co-captain, Patrice Bergeron, for his mentorship and support.
After retiring in the 2021-22 season, Chara now serves as an advisor and mentor for the Bruins. A special ceremony is planned to raise his number 33 jersey to the rafters at TD Garden on January 15.
Jack Parker: A Coaching Legend
Jack Parker’s induction into the Hall of Fame highlights his successful tenure as the head coach of Boston University’s hockey team. Over his 40-year career, he amassed 897 wins, three National Championships, and 21 Beanpot titles.
Parker began his journey at Boston University as a player in 1965, later becoming an assistant coach and then the head coach in 1973. He remarked, “You’re not allowed to coach the same team for 40 years unless you win.” His successful track record speaks to his dedication and ability to consistently lead his team to victory.
Joe Thornton: The Face of the Bruins
Joe Thornton, affectionately known as “Jumbo Joe,” began his illustrious career when he was drafted first overall by the Bruins in 1997. Thornton served as the team captain from 2002 until 2005 when he was traded to the San Jose Sharks.
During his time with the Bruins, he was selected to three All-Star teams. In his acceptance speech, Thornton acknowledged the challenges he faced in his initial seasons but praised the Bruins alumni for their support: “The people of Boston, you were so good to me, thank you.”
