San Jose Sharks Revamp Lineup for Tuesday’s Game Against Wild
The San Jose Sharks have made significant roster changes ahead of their upcoming matchup against the Minnesota Wild. Forward William Eklund has been activated from injured reserve, allowing him to participate in Tuesday’s game, which is the first of a three-game road trip.
William Eklund Returns to the Lineup
Eklund missed the last four games due to a lower-body injury. He fully participated in both Monday’s practice and Tuesday’s morning skate in St. Paul. In preparation for his return, he skated on the second line with Alexander Wennberg and Philipp Kurashev.
To accommodate Eklund, the Sharks reassigned forward Ethan Cardwell back to their AHL affiliate, the Barracuda. Cardwell played four games with the Sharks, where he scored one goal and averaged 12:21 of ice time.
Eklund’s Performance This Season
- Eklund leads the Sharks with 11 points in 12 games.
- In six games from October 23 to November 1, he registered four goals and five assists.
- He notably contributed in the October 26 overtime win against the Wild, scoring three points.
The Sharks are currently on a strong streak, with a record of 5-1-1 following their last game. They aim to continue this momentum on their trip, facing the Calgary Flames and the Seattle Kraken later this week.
Changes on Defense
Defensively, Timothy Liljegren is a healthy scratch for Tuesday’s game, marking his first absence this season due to a coach’s decision. He previously missed three games last month due to injury. Liljegren has averaged 20:31 minutes of ice time over 13 games and has been vital to the penalty kill unit.
With Liljegren out, Shakir Mukhamadullin will step back into the lineup, partnering with Dmitry Orlov. The Sharks have a full roster of eight defensemen on the road.
Goalie Segment
In goal, Yaroslav Askarov is set to start, marking his second consecutive appearance. In his latest outing against the Florida Panthers, he made 38 saves. The Sharks have alternated their goalies, Askarov and Alex Nedeljkovic, with both performing well.
