LINC Boosts KC Childcare Program to New Heights

In Kansas City, a new childcare program called Kids in Christ Academy has opened its doors, bringing excitement to the community. Located at 39th and Troost Avenue, the facility is easily accessible via public transportation. Parents have expressed their enthusiasm, with many praising the new space for its vibrant and welcoming atmosphere.

LINC’s Support for Childcare Services

Christina Puckett, the director of Kids in Christ Academy, has been involved in childcare since 1989, starting her own businesses in 2007. Her journey took a significant turn in 2019 when she connected with LINC’s early childhood program support team. This partnership provided essential resources and support for her emerging childcare center.

A Collaborative Journey

Puckett initially operated from another location at 42nd and Indiana Avenue. Upon hearing about public-funded opportunities, she reached out to LINC, prompting a collaborative effort. LINC’s team assisted her in various training programs, enhancing the skills of her teachers and improving classroom management techniques.

  • Training on engaging lesson plans
  • Strategies for supporting special behavioral needs
  • Safety improvements for classrooms and outdoor play areas
  • Access to better educational resources and furniture

This effort was crucial in preparing the center for its new location at the Kansas City Area Transit Authority’s site, where it won a competitive bid earlier this year.

Impact on Early Childhood Education

The LINC team’s support has been vital in the growth of Kids in Christ Academy. Sarah Ramirez, LINC Early Childhood Coordinator, emphasized that the early years of a child’s life are critical for development. The program’s mission aligns with fostering learning environments for children from birth to age five.

In 2024, LINC worked with a total of seven childcare centers, collectively caring for 416 children, making over 500 visits, and collaborating with 117 teachers. This commitment has empowered educators and allowed children to thrive in nurturing, safe spaces.

A Vision Realized

The transformation of Kids in Christ Academy demonstrates the power of community support. Puckett expressed gratitude for LINC’s contribution, stating, “I’m glad LINC as an organization was able to give resources and support that really helped me see my vision.”

As the program expands, it looks forward to serving more families, affirming its mission to create a joyful and supportive environment for every child.
