Rob Edwards has been appointed the new head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers (Wolves), signing a three-and-a-half-year contract. This marks his fourth time involved with the club, highlighting a strong connection that began in 2004.

Rob Edwards’ Coaching Journey

The former defender has made significant strides in management over recent years. He achieved promotions with Forest Green Rovers and Luton Town, guiding the latter to the Premier League. His recent tenure at Middlesbrough also resulted in a commendable start to the Championship season, leaving the club in second place.

A Strong Wolves Legacy

Edwards, originally from Telford, has a long-standing history with Wolves. During his playing career, he made 111 appearances over four seasons, notably under coach Mick McCarthy. He has also represented Wales 15 times, furthering his football resume with stints at Blackpool and Barnsley.

Coaching Experience

Edwards entered coaching in 2014, starting with Wolves’ under-18s. Just a year later, he became a first-team coach under Kenny Jackett. In October 2016, he temporarily managed the first team, taking charge of two matches following Walter Zenga’s departure.

After a spell with AFC Telford United, he returned to Wolves as under-23 head coach, achieving a notable promotion for the youth team. His coaching career continued with significant success, first at Forest Green, where he secured the League Two title in 2022, and then a brief period with Watford.

Community and Club Connection

Wolves Chairman Jeff Shi expressed confidence in Edwards, stating his familiarity with the club and its culture. Shi noted, “Rob is very talented and understands the city and the fans well.” His goal is to revitalize Wolves through a fresh coaching philosophy.

Matt Jackson, another club official, highlighted Edwards’ ability to shift team culture and instill confidence in players. “We need to bring his energy onto the pitch,” Jackson said, emphasizing the importance of accountability and belief among the squad.

Assistant Coach and Future Staff

Joining Edwards is Harry Watling, who will serve as assistant head coach. Watling brings nine years of experience in academy football, along with managerial roles at Hartford Athletic and Ebbsfleet United. Further additions to the backroom staff are expected shortly.

Fans and players eagerly await the next chapter for Wolves under Rob Edwards’ leadership, as the club aspires to build on its rich history and recent successes.
