Nitish Kumar Roars Back to Victory Overcoming Challenges in Bihar Assembly Election Tiger Abhi Zinda Hai

Nitish Kumar has marked a significant political comeback in the 2025 Bihar Assembly Elections, overcoming numerous challenges. The leader of the Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)], Kumar’s party has made remarkable gains, expanding from just 43 assembly seats in the previous election to winning 85 seats this time, making it the second-largest party in Bihar.

Nitish Kumar: A Resilient Leader

The campaign leading to the elections saw Kumar facing skepticism about his leadership abilities. Critics questioned his mental fitness and governance skills, while his opposition, particularly RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav, claimed that JD(U) was under BJP control. Furthermore, Prashant Kishor, the head of Jan Suraj, predicted that the JD(U) would secure only 25 seats.

BJP’s Role and Challenges

In a twist, the BJP announced that the leader of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) would be chosen by legislators after the election results. This decision complicated Kumar’s position, especially as JD(U) faced internal challenges from Chirag Paswan, who publicly criticized the state’s law and order. Additionally, anti-incumbency sentiments loomed after Kumar’s two decades in power.

Women Voters as a Key Support Base

Despite these hurdles, Kumar’s campaign was vigorous. He focused on his development agenda, appealing predominantly to women voters. This demographic proved pivotal for the JD(U), as many women silently supported his efforts. Kumar announced several welfare schemes and increased cash benefits for various programs.

Election Outcomes and Future Implications

Although Nitish Kumar has achieved a noteworthy comeback, it is uncertain if he will assume the role of chief minister again. The BJP outperformed JD(U) by securing 92 seats, while smaller allies collectively gained 27. This brings the NDA close to the crucial majority mark of 122 seats, even without Kumar’s JD(U).

Overall, while Nitish Kumar has solidified his political presence, the negotiations ahead between his party and the BJP will determine the next steps in Bihar’s leadership dynamics.
