Bihar Elections Update: RJD Lags Behind NDA with Tejashwi Yadav Trailing in Raghopur

In the ongoing Bihar elections, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) is currently showing mixed results. Early trends indicate that the RJD is leading in 36 seats out of the 143 it contested, as part of an alliance that includes Congress, CPI-ML, CPI, CPM, Vikasheel Insaan Party (VIP), and Indian Inclusive Party (IIP).

Bihar Assembly Elections: Current Status

As per the Election Commission of India, the ruling coalition led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is significantly ahead, leading in 82 seats. Additionally, the Janata Dal United (JDU), led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, is currently ahead in 75 seats.

Tejashwi Yadav’s Performance

Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, the RJD leader and the declared chief ministerial candidate for the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), is trailing in his traditional constituency of Raghopur. As of 11:40 AM, he is down by 3,016 votes against BJP’s Satish Kumar.

Tejashwi previously won the Raghopur seat in 2015 and 2020, adding to the heightened expectations surrounding his candidacy this election cycle.

Voter Sentiment and Political Implications

Nawal Kishore Choudhary, a poll observer, suggests that the trends indicate a referendum in favor of the NDA’s governance model, emphasizing development and infrastructure improvements in Bihar. He noted that despite concerns regarding law and order, voters seem to recall past governance under the RJD rule in the 1990s.

  • RJD leads in 36 seats.
  • BJP leads in 82 seats.
  • JDU leads in 75 seats.
  • Tejashwi Yadav trailing in Raghopur.

A senior RJD leader expressed optimism, arguing that these early trends do not reflect the final outcome. “This is just the beginning; we expect our position to improve as more results come in,” the leader stated.

Looking Forward

In the 2020 assembly elections, the RJD emerged as the largest party of the INDIA bloc, winning 75 seats in a 243-member assembly. How the current election unfolds will reveal if RJD can reclaim its influence in Bihar or if the NDA’s development narrative secures their continued dominance.
